Above Photo from 5 Steps to Awakening Your Beautiful Soul

This looked like a great article that I wanted to save. I have been doing yoga since age 12. The last position, pose or posture is the corpse pose. I would do it for 20 minutes so that is like a meditation that I have been doing since age 12. From website below:

1. Better Immunity That Helps to Prevent and Fight Cancer

2. More Emotional Balance

3. Increase in Fertility in Men and Women

4. Relieves IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome

5. Lower Blood Pressure if It Is Too High

6. Anti-inflammatory Reducing All Age Related Diseases

7. More Tranquility

8. Meditation has Been Proven to Have an Anti-Aging Effect also.

These benefits were proven through modern medicine studies. The health benefits of meditation became famous with the best-selling book, The Relaxation Response by Herbert Benson M.D. (cardiologist) in 1975. He tested many kinds of meditation and saw that they all created this unique physiological state where respiration and heart rate are slower than when you are sleeping. So people who do not meditate are never in that physiological state. He wrote about the many benefits of this.

At the time that he researched meditation and wrote that book, he was a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Now he is Mind/Body Medical Institute Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and also director emeritus of the Benson-Henry Institute (BHI). He is the author or co-author of more than 175 scientific publications and 11 books. More than four million copies of his books have been printed in many languages.

This cardiologist says that meditation can help you prevent high blood pressure, hardening of arteries, heart attack and stroke. Here is the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.

See this article about 29 Celebrities That Do Meditation to see a video of Dr. Oz telling how he has done meditation for years and how he paid for his staff to learn it and their benefits. Also a video of Oprah Winfrey doing the same thing. It also has more on others that do meditation like Al Gore, Jerry Seinfeld, Demi Moore, Clint Eastwood, Jessica Simpson (see her doing it video) and Howard Stern who is now one of the Judges on the TV show America's Got Talent.

About The Relaxation Response book below: This revitalizing, therapeutic approach, discovered by Dr. Herbert Benson and his colleagues in the laboratories of Harvard Medical School and its teaching hospitals, is now routinely recommended to treat patients suffering from heart conditions, high blood pressure, chronic pain, insomnia, and many other physical ailments.
